Exploring Iceland: A Guide to the Land of Fire and Ice

Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country's capital and largest city. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. There are so many things to see and do in Reykjavik. Cozy cafes, to amazing museums. Be sure to bring a lot of money because it gets super pricey.

If you want to get the best view of the city , visit the top of Hallgrimskirkja church.

Tip: There is a small fee to ride to the top and the elevators are small and only allow a few people at a time.

The most beautiful black sand beach in the world is located in Iceland, and it is called 'Reynisfjara' in Icelandic.

Tip: Be careful of the tidal waves, you literally could get swept away quick! People have been known to die here. Don't forget to check out the cave on the beach that was carved out by the ocean waves. Enjoying the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a geo thermal spa in southwestern Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field near Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, in a location favourable for geothermal power, and is supplied by water used in the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power station.

Things you should know:

1. It's expensive

2. Follow the rules

3. Don't get your hair wet.

4. The bar in the lagoon is awesome.

5. Its close to the airport, so most people like to go on arrival to iceland .

There is something magical about a warm cup of coffee. Enjoying it can be a complex ritual but also a simple feeling. At Reykjavík Roasters, you will feel this through every sip of coffee. i loved sitting by the window and the decor is really funky and with a vintage flair.

Tip? Would you believe I took this picture at 10 pm? The Icelandic midnight sun was in full effect!

Seljalandsfoss is a beautiful waterfall along the southern coast. It cascades over steep cliffs, which makes it possible for you to walk behind the waterfall. It offers a spectacular view of the waterfall itself and the surroundings. Make sure you don’t forget your camera, but be advised, it might get wet.

Tip: Ask your guide to snap a photo of you!

If you get hungry be sure to stop at Kaffi Loki which is located across the street from Hallgrímskirkja church in downtown Reykjavik. A traditional Icelandic home style restaurant serving classic Icelandic cuisine. Tip: The bread is amazing! There is absolutely no doubt that the Land of Fire and Ice is stunning and people flock to see its natural beauty for themselves throughout the year in their masses. Seen here is once again the black sand beach of Vik. Vík í Mýrdal can certainly hold its own in the breathtaking stakes. Full of natural wonders it certainly is an alluring village and one that cannot be missed when visiting Iceland.

The cliffs at black sand beach is a great to spot puffins! Puffins are birds that have black and white feathers and a large parrot-like beak  and they almost look like mini penguins!

Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran church, located on top of the Skólavörðuhæð hill in the centre of Reykjavík.

Fun Fact: The church was designed by one of Iceland’s most renowned architects, Guðjón Samúelsson, who is said to have sought inspiration for his expressionistic design from elements of Icelandic nature.

This eye-popping Icelandic crater lake is surrounded by red volcanic rock...yes it is the Kerid Crater! Be careful.. there is a nice hike up to the top but stay steady.

Located in southern Iceland along the so-called Golden Circle, Kerid is unique among crater lakes in that its caldera likely didn’t form from an explosion as most do. The Kerid volcano is thought to have formed when the magma in the center simply depleted itself, and the empty chamber beneath caved in. Regardless of the geological minutia that led to the lake’s creation, its bright rainbow of colors look amazing.
